HOUSTON (CBS Houston) – New Astros Owner Jim Crane addressed the media on Monday afternoon to discuss the fan experience changes that will be coming this season to Minute Maid Park.  One of the topics that was brought up, was the possible franchise name and jersey change.

“We’re going to study the information, both from the fans and from all sorts of marketing people,” Crane said about the possible changes.  “I’m not saying we’re going to change, we haven’t made the decision yet whether we’re going to change.”

Crane did add that if the team did make such changes to the uniforms or team name, they would happen as early as next season.  Plus, the proper approval process from Major League Baseball would have to be visited in order to make the changes to the ball club’s name and jerseys.  A privately hired marketing firm would be consulted on those possibilities.

Crane did add that along with the possible changes, other improvements to Minute Maid Park could be in order with his ownership group taking over the club.

Today’s meeting with the media came after Crane had met with numerous fans, about what the Astros could do to better improve the experience for fans. The Astros ownership decided to lower ticket prices, allowing fans to bring food and water into Minute Maid Park, rebates offered to returning season ticket holders, and other changes to get people back to the ball park.

Dumbest idea in baseball would be to change the name of the Astros!!

Just bring the old uniforms back & let The Brewers go back to the AL. Braves fan frm Louisiana living in Texas. Bad enough the Oilers are gone.

Why not? Once the team leaves the NL the start a new beginning, why not leave the Astro’s as a NL team. Start off in the AL with a new name and a new history.

If they change the name of the team, I am done. I was pretty much done when the announced the move to the American League. This will be the final nail in the coffin. Jim Crane will probably rename the team to the “Houston Dollar Bills”, because it appears to be all he cares about.

Changing the name of the team is actually one of the most respectful things Jim Crane could do. The Houston Astros are a National League franchise. Well before this statement by Crane, I had already decided that after the 2012 season I will not only switch allegiance to a steadfast National League club, I will not refer to Crane’s team as the Astros, and, if the name isn’t changed, I will reference the Houston American League franchise. The Houston Astros will be dead after this season. A name change would be most respectful to the Astros’ legacy, because it will signal that, in fact, from 2013, Houston’s MLB franchise is a different franchise.

he’s just prepping for when he moves team from houston, when/if we get another MLB team, we could use the name again, like da brown.
