Jeff Luhnow became the 12th GM in Astros history when he was named to the position on Wednesday. He joins the Astros front office after spending the previous 9 season with the St. Louis Cardinals. Luhnow was instrumental in the Cardinals minor league success, which boasted the best system record in baseball in 2010 and has achieved 5 minor league championships during his tenure. Luhnow’s guidance in scouting and development helped the Cardinals land prospects like Jaime Garcia, Mitchell Boggs, Allen Craig Lance Lynn and Jon Jay in recent years.
Jeff talks with the “Odd Couple” about why he felt it was the right time to undertake the task of being a general manager, why he believes the Astros can succeed in the American League, and the importance of retaining former Astro greats like Craig Biggio and Jeff Bagwell to assist him and his staff in the further development of a young ball club.
