AUSTIN, Texas (CBS Houston) – A Texas college student is coming under fire for saying on Twitter that the assassination of President Obama would be “tempting.”

Lauren Pierce, president of the College Republicans chapter at the University of Texas at Austin, made the comment Nov. 15.

“Y’all [sic] as tempting as it may be, don’t shoot Obama,” the tweet said. “We need him to go down in history as the WORST president we’ve EVER had!”

She finished the message with a 2012 hashtag, making her words easily searchable to anyone looking to read Twitter commentary on the upcoming presidential election.

As of Nov. 16, her account was set to private, allowing only those permitted by Pierce herself to view her feed.

Pierce’s words were a response to the news of Oscar Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez’s capture after a four-day hunt for the person who fired shots at White House windows.

CBS Houston has reached out to the College Republicans of UT Austin, as well as the school’s office of public affairs, for further comment.
