ESPN Announces GameDay Coming To UH Campus
The University of Houston is pleased to announce that ESPN’s College GameDay is coming to the UH campus for the first time in school historynext Saturday (Nov. 19), in conjunction with the 2:30 p.m., regular-season home finale vs. SMU.
Many details will follow throughout the week, but Cougar fans of all ages are encouraged to display their support for the show during its stay in town.
“This is an incredible opportunity for the nation to see what is taking place at the University of Houston,” Director of Athletics Mack Rhoades said. “We thank ESPN and Home Depot for this outstanding event and we salute the work of our student-athletes, our coaches, our staff and our fans for making this event a reality.”
UH officials are working with ESPN on location details, which will be announced as soon as they’re available, likely early Monday. The show will originate from the UHcampus on Friday (noon to 2 p.m. CT) as well as the Saturday show which runsfrom 8-11 a.m. CT. Fans are invited to come out to the activities on both days and show the country their support for the nation’s No. 11-ranked program.
“This is part of the championships culture we are building here at the University ofHouston,” Head Coach Kevin Sumlin said. “Not just on the field, but for our student-athletes in the classroom, in the community and the involvement of our fans and alumni, this is what we have all worked towards. This is an opportunity to show the country what UH Athletics is all about.”
Houston is one of just five undefeated teams remaining in college football and is coming off a 73-17 win on Thursday at Tulane. UH is scoring points and racking up yardage at record rates. The 2011 Cougars are averaging 628.8 yards per game this season, the most in NCAA history. The team is also scoring 54.7 points per game, the most since Army (56.0 ppg) in 1944.
Tickets for Saturday’s game are nearly sold out. Fewer than 500 seats remain, and Cougar fans will witness the final regular-season home game for a senior class that includes school and NCAA record holders Tyron Carrier, Patrick Edwards, Case Keenum and Marcus McGraw.
