With less than two weeks before the start of basketball season, University of Houston fans are invited to the Yeoman Fieldhouse at 6 p.m., Wednesday, for the Houston Basketball Hardwood Tip-Off.
Men’s head coach James Dickey and women’s head coach Todd Buchanan will lead their respective teams on the court for a variety of competitions. Admission is free to all fans and students, who are invited to attend.
Doors open at 6 p.m., Wednesday. From 6 to 7 p.m., fans can take part in a wide variety of games and activities. In addition, student-athletes from both teams will be available for autographs.
The program begins at 7 p.m., as both head coaches speak and introduce their teams. Current UH students who attend also will have a chance to compete for some great prizes. One student will have a chance to win a year’s supply of Coca-Cola by hitting a halfcourt shot, and two $500 textbook scholarships will be given away.
Fans will enjoy a 2-Ball shooting competition featuring the defending Conference USA champion women’s team as well as a Slam Dunk competition by the men’s team. Several men’s and women’s student-athletes also will perform for the crowd in a freestyle rap.
The Spirit of Houston, Houston Cheer and the Cougar Dolls also are scheduled to make special appearances.
Men’s and women’s basketball season tickets are now available at the Houston Athletics Ticket Office. Men’s general admission season tickets begin as low as $135, while reserved seating season tickets start as low as $195.
Families also will enjoy the men’s Family Fun Plan. For only $299, families receive two adult and two youth general admission season tickets. Additional youth season tickets in the Family Fun Plan can be purchased for $75 each.
In the Satisfaction Guaranteed plan, fans who purchase men’s season tickets by Nov. 30 and are not satisfied with the game-day experience can return their remaining tickets by Feb. 1 and receive a full refund.
Women’s season tickets can be purchased starting at only $75. These general admission season tickets are part of a Flex Plan. Fans can use one ticket per game, invite 16 friends to come out to a single game or any combination in between.
Fans can also get closer to theaction by purchasing season floor seats for only $200.

ABOUT THE MEN’S TEAM
Four veterans will be joined by eight newcomers on the men’s team in 2011-12. Sophomore forward Alandise Harris is the Cougars’ leading returning scorer and rebounder from a year ago and will be joined in the Houston frontcourt by junior forward Kirk Van Slyke.
Senior guard Darian Thibodeaux was the only player to start all 30 games last season and finished second in school single-season history, hitting 44 percent of his 3-point attempts.
Off the court, sophomore Mikhail McLean was named to the Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
ABOUT THE WOMEN’S TEAM
Five letterwinners return from last season’s record-breaking squad, while eight newcomers are added to the mix. Porsche Landry returns for her senior season after earning First Team All-Conference USA honors a year ago. Landry will set out to become the third-straight Cougar to earn C-USA Player of the Year honors.
