Pet Mountain Lion Attacks Texas Boy

ODESSA, Texas (CBS Houston) – A pet mountain lion attacks a 4-year-old boy, sending him to the hospital.

The attack happened Sunday afternoon at his aunt’s house in West Odessa.

Odessa police say that the lion reached out and grabbed the boy when he stood close to its cage.

“He was in a cage that had large openings, so if you stood to close to it, he could reach out,” Odessa Police Department Cpl. Sherrie Carruth told the Odessa American.

The little boy was sent to Medical Center Hospital after receiving lacerations, puncture wounds and a bite mark in the mauling, according to the paper.

A neighbor described to the Odessa American the commotion during the attack.

“I heard someone say, ‘He’s got him.’ That’s all I heard, just screaming and chaos,” the neighbor told the paper. “And you could hear them saying, ‘Somebody call 9-1-1. Somebody get a gun.’”

There has yet to be any updates on the child’s condition.

The animal was euthanized and is being tested for rabies.
