Houston’s Brown Added To Bednarik Watch List

Senior ranks #2 nationally with 14 tackles-for-loss

Sammy Brown is off to a fantastic senior campaign and on Monday the Wiggins, Miss., native was added to the Chuck Bednarik Award Watch List, which is presented annually to the country’s top defensive player.

Presented by the Maxwell Football Club, the original Bednarik List was comprised of the country’s Top 65 defenders based upon 2010 honors, but Brown’s outstanding start made him one of just 11 players added to the Watch List.

So far in 2011 Brown leads Conference USA and ranks #2 nationally with 14 tackles-for-loss, including a team-best 5.5 sacks. The versatile linebacker paces the club with nine quarterback hurries and chipped in an impressive 2.5 sacks and four additional QB hurries during a resounding 56-3 victory over East Carolina last weekend at Robertson Stadium.

Brown, a 2010 transfer from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, earned Conference USA honorable mention accolades last season, which included 7.5 sacks and 20 tackles-for-loss.

Brown was also named to the College Football Performance Award Linebacker Watch List earlier this preseason.
