Senior quarterback Case Keenum has a collection of outstanding wide receivers and another of those pass-catching standouts was named to the Fred Biletnikoff Award Watch List on Tuesday as Tyron Carrier was added to the list by the selection committee.
Carrier joins fellow Cougar teammate, Patrick Edwards, who was named to the preseason list in July. The addition of the former Worthing High School standout illustrates how Head Coach Kevin Sumlin has helped build one of the top wide receiving corps in America.
Carrier has been both a pass-catching and return standout for Houston in 2011. The Houston native leads UH with 39 receptions in six games and has a pair of touchdowns. His 456 yards receiving ranks second on the team and Houston’s 603.7 yards of total offense leads all of F.B.S.
Carrier has also been Houston’s top kickoff return man in 2011. He is averaging 19.9 yards on 14 returns, while fellow award nominee, Edwards, leads Houston with 10.8 yards on six punt returns.
Back in the national rankings (#22 ESPN/USA Today and #25 in Associated Press), Houston returns to action next weekend in the annual Homecoming game on Oct. 22. The Cougars will face Marshall at 3:30 p.m. at Robertson Stadium and tickets are on sale now by calling 713-GO-COOGS.
