UH Athletics Hires Dave Reiter As Associate AD For Communications
Dave Reiter has joined the University of Houston Department of Intercollegiate Athletics as associate athletics director for communications, Director of Athletics Mack Rhoades announced Sunday.
“We are thrilled to welcome Dave to the Houston Athletics family,” Rhoades said. “Dave is a well-respected member of the athletics communications profession and impressed all who spoke with him during the interview process. He will bring a new perspective and exciting ideas to our senior staff as we continue to build our program, and we look forward to his contributions.”
“I would like to thank Mack Rhoades and (senior associate athletics director) Darren Dunn for this incredible opportunity. The family atmosphere, the focus on student-athlete support and the growth of the sport programs really made me want to be a part of this university,” Reiter said. “Add the facility enhancements that are about to begin, coupled with the coaching staffs, and you have the makings of a program that is poised to win and win big.”
Before joining Houston Athletics, Reiter served six seasons as the director of strategic communications at the University of Missouri. During his tenure, he assisted in the publicity for the Tigers’ 22 intercollegiate sports and served as the primary contact for the men’s basketball, men’s and women’s golf and women’s tennis programs.
He also served on the communications team with university administrators.
In 2007-08, his men’s basketball media guide received “Best in the Nation” honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America.
In leaving Columbia, Reiter was grateful for the support of his Missouri colleagues, administrators and media members.
“I would also like to thank (Director of Athletics) Mike Alden and (Associate AD) Chad Moller at Mizzou. Their mentorship and friendship allowed me to make this step,” Reiter said. “Columbia was my home for six years and to the staff at Missouri and the media I had the opportunity to work and grow with, thank you.”
Reiter worked for two seasons as the assistant sports information director at Northern Illinois University from 2001 to 2003, working with men’s basketball while supervising media relations activities for baseball, wrestling, men’s and women’s golf and men’s and women’s soccer.
Reiter received his bachelor’s degree in public relations from Kansas State in 2001. As a student, he placed second in the CoSIDA Excellence in Writing Award for a feature on former Wildcat football player Nilijah McCoy.
After receiving his bachelor’s degree, Reiter worked for two years at the University of Illinois, where he received his master’s degree in leisure studies with an emphasis in sport management in 2002.
Reiter replaces Cassie Arner, who recently accepted a position at Auburn University.
