Ninja-Like Game For The Texans’ Newest Captain
When the list of captains was released on the Friday before the home opener against the division rival Indianapolis Colts, you expected to see names like Matt Schaub, Andre Johnson and DeMeco Ryans. You might have also been expecting the rather accurate Neil Rackers to get a nod. There was one name on that list, however, that most were not expecting; Antonio Smith.
Smith, starting his third year as a Texan, was told the results of the player vote before practice on Friday. So how does a very vocal character like that thank his fellow teammates for the honor? How about going out and going out onto the field following an interception, and getting the ball back in the offense’s hands by causing a sack/fumble? Or is it by putting pressure on a QB all day long that has embarrassed this franchise a number of times? Or is it by, as a captain, holding the opposition to 261 yards of total offense?
How about all of the above?
If this is what this defense looks like with Ryans and Smith leading the other 9 guys on the field, then Texans fans should expect to see Smith’s “Ninja Sword” get pulled out all year long.
