The Houston Texas cut 28 players, including fourth-year linebacker Xavier Adibi, safety Shiloh Keo and punter Brad Maynard, according to published reports.

The Texas are down to 52, one under the maximum, which will likely be used to bring aboard another punter.

Also released were running back Chris Ogbonnaya, of Strake Jesuit, who had an impressive preseason and should not have trouble being picked up by another team soon. Additionally, the Texans parted ways with linebackers Steven Friday, Mister Alexander, Stanford Keglar and Matt Marcorelle, long snapper Scott, Albritton, defensive linemen Scooter Berry, Damione Lewis, Guy Miller and John Graves, offensive linemen Howard Barbieri, Andrew Gardner, Cole Pemberton, Cody Wallace  and Pete Hendrickson, receivers Trindon Holliday, Dorin Dickerson, Derrick Townsel and Jeff Maehl, safeties Torri Wiliams and Quentin Demps, tight end Anthony Hill, running back Javarris Williams and fullback Zac Pauga.

Placed on the reserved injured list were ex-Rice linebacker Cheta Ozougwu and wide receiver Terrence Toliver.

Among the surprise moves was the waiving of Maynard, who is the only punter left on the roster. The Texans obviously have a replacement in mind. The Texans also kept undrafted free agent Bryan Braman after the outside linebacker had a stellar preseason.

There could still be more moves to be made as more players are released around the NFL. The Texans will also be able to bring back some of the players on the practice squad provided they are not added to another team’s 53-man roster.
