University of Texas coach Mack Brown kept us all in suspense since the spring about who the Longhorns quarterback would be this season.

Some thought he might wait until Saturday night’s season opener against Rice to make his selection know, adding even more anticipation to the debut of the much talked about Longhorn Network. But Brown finally revealed Monday that incumbent Garrett Gilbert will start against the Owls on Saturday.
Case McCoy, the younger brother of Colt McCoy will back up Gilbert while David Ash and Connor Wood are still competing for the third spot. The Longhorns still have not decided if they will redshirt David Saturday or not, though it seems likely.
“The quarterback battle has been the best one that I’ve ever seen,” Brown said. “I think that (co-offensive coordinator) Bryan Harsin has done a tremendous job of making sure that each have had their opportunities with the different levels of competition.
