There are two ways you can renew your drivers license in Houston. You can renew online at the Department of Public Safety website or you can go to your local DPS.

To renew online visit the DPS website. Read the eligibility requirements and make sure you meet the requirements before proceeding. The website will  require information from your current Driver’s License and your Social Security number.   To pay the renewal  fee you must have a valid major credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Discover or American Express).

To renew at your local DPS, bring the following items:

  • Social Security card
  • Current Driver’s License
  • Proof of Lawful Presence (for non-U.S. Citizens)
  • Current Vehicle Liability Insurance
  • Cash or Credit Card for renewal fees.
