BARC is going to the dogs!
The city’s animal shelter and adoption center, BARC, is attending the 34th Annual Reliant Park World Series of Dog Shows, held July 20-24, 2011, at Reliant Center.
BARC will have adorable doggies available for adoption, and information regarding the humane transformation of their facility.

“We are so proud to be a part of this year’s dog show, and we are looking forward to showing Houstonians the new BARC,” said BARC General Manager Dave Atencio. Friends of BARC will be there to provide additional information and host a fabulous raffle with spectacular prizes.

BARC partnered with the American Kennel Club to provide BARC adopted dogs with a complimentary lifetime enrollment in the AKC Canine Partners Program, which welcomes mix-breed dogs to participate in the fun and tradition of America’s oldest and most well known dog registry. The enrollment includes a one-year subscription in AKC Family Dog magazine, 60-day trial pet healthcare plan, AKC Canine Partners certificate, and eligibility to enter AKC Rally, Obedience, Agility, and Coursing Ability events.

For the first time, Reliant Park World Series of Dog Shows will feature a public “try-out” area on July 23 & 24, from 10 am to noon and from 1 pm to 3 pm for mix breeds. Professional trainers will be on hand to demonstrate obedience training and show how to get your dog started in the fun of Agility and Rally sports.

BARC recently adopted out more than 400 animals. Thanks to a successful media blitz, coupled with extraordinary adoption fees and best adoption values in the city, Houstonians nearly emptied the shelter of adoptable animals over the weekend event.
Don’t worry, if you wish to adopt, there are always animals available for adoption as a result of more than 100 animals surrendered to BARC daily.

To celebrate the success and keep the momentum going, BARC extended the deeply discounted adoption rates of $20 for dogs and $10 for cats through Sunday, July 24th.

To help the BARC Houston shelter, and pets throughout our community, the best way, is to talk to your friends, neighbors, and family about caring for pets responsibly.
