Just like the previous coach of the team, the Wild went with an NHL assistant to coach the Aeros.  However unlike Yeo,  John Torchetti has experience as a head coach in the NHL.

The Wild tabbed Mike Yeo to be their new head coach after his Western Conference Championship Season in 2010-11.

Torchetti served as the interim head coach for the Florida Panthers back in 2004, after Rick Dudley was fired with 27 games left in the season, going 10-12-4-1.  He served in a similar capacity with the Los Angeles Kings in the 2005-06 season, going five and seven in their last 12 games.

His last stop was with the Atlanta Thrashers last season as an assistant and before that, he was with the Chicago Blackhawks in their Stanley Cup winning season in 2010.  Torchetti has an eight year playing career in professional hockey, without ever reaching the NHL.

This is John Torchetti’s second stint inTexashockey, after coaching the San Antonio Iguanas of the Central Hockey League.  Taking over in 1994 and winning the Commissioner’s Trophy in 1995.  His teams lost in the finals in both seasons.  He also coached as an assistant with the San Antonio Dragons of the International Hockey League.  Then he became a head coach in the inaugural season of the San Antonio Rampage in 2002, with the American Hockey League.
