Just in time for Father’s Day, psychotherapist Mary Jo Rapini explains on FOX 26 Morning News Extra how a child is affected by the lack of a father. When a child is raised without the male influence of a father, the results can be detrimental.

Rapini also emphasizes that the love for children should outweigh the lack of love between parents who are divorced.

Rapini’s list of the five ways fathers impact their children notes the main ways they can affect their interpersonal skills.

Here are the ways fathers impact their children:

1. a sense of protection
2. help with development and play
3. model of respect for women
4. inspiration for wiser relationship choices
5. teaching morality and values to sons
