Texans’ Pollard Not Tendered

By ANNA-MEGAN RALEY

Texans strong safety Bernard Pollard was not tendered but was hoping to remain in a Houston uniform. New Texans defensive coordinator Wade Phillips says Pollard’s style of play does not fit his system, which is a 3-4 defense.

Check out the interview with Bernard Pollard on the J&R show with Josh Innes and Rich Lord.

Pollard is a hard hitter, while Phillips is looking for two safeties who can cover receivers and tight ends. But Pollard has been the vocal and veteran leader of the Texans’ young secondary during his two seasons with the team.

The Texans released free safety Eugene Wilson last month and must focus on defense during April’s NFL Draft.

Safety Troy Nolan is entering his third season with the Texans.

What impact do you think Pollard’s absence will have on the Texans defense?
