A man has been charged following the discovery and detonation of a suspicious duffle bag outside Houston City Hall.

Edward Marcus Johnson, 39, was charged with a terroristic threat, a felony offense.

No bond amount has been set for Johnson.

The package was found around 7:45 a.m. Monday, causing City Hall to be placed on lockdown. No one was allowed to enter the building for at least 30 minutes.

In addition, streets surrounding City Hall were closed to traffic as police responded to the suspicious package.

Members of the Houston Police Department bomb squad detonated the package around 8:30 a.m. and allowed people to enter the building.

Police determined the suspicious pacakge was a duffle bag that contained toys, wires and nails.
