Police are searching for the father of five children who is accused of keeping several guns in his southeast Houston home and leaving the children home alone after officers surround the house.
Officers arrived last night around 10pm to the home on Sherman Street near 71st Street in response to reported disturbance. Someone had contacted police earlier and said the father had several guns and refused to leave the house with the four boys and one girl inside. The children range in age from one to nine years old.
When officers were not able to get the suspect to respond to their commands, the Special Weapons and Tactics team arrived before 10:30 p.m. and tried to contact him.
When the police and SWAT team used a loudspeaker to communicate with the father, the five children woke up, approached the window and walked out through the front door of the house.
When SWAT team members entered the home, they determined the father was not inside the house and had sneaked out before the SWAT unit arrived.
The children were not hurt and police are searching for the father who has been identified.
Police have not determined why the father refused to answer officers’ commands.
