The Houston Independent School district says it will close on Friday due to the threat of wintry weather.
In addition, there will be no after school activities on Thursday.
The announcement came late Thursday as forecasters predicted the Houston area would see snow and sleet over night.
Areas north of Highway 59 have the greatest chance of seeing one to three inches of snow. South of that will be a snow-sleet mix. Near the coast, Galveston will see cold rain.
HISD isn’t alone in its closure. Galveston ISD will also release students early on Thursday and will be closed on Friday.
